How It All Started

The exact history of the humble beginnings of the Sitiawan Wesley MYF Musicals can be dated to as early as when the MYF was first established in Sitiawan Wesley, so to say - dunno precisely when as I was not even born yet.....and right thru' the Seventies and early Eighties, the tradition was later modified into a plan laid out by the 'Super-Fivers' and 'Super-Sixers' (fresh Fifth and Sixth Form school-leavers) usually every Chinese New Year where usually musicals have been adapted from various assortments of soundtracks ranging from Evie and Scott Wesley Brown to David Meece and Sandi Patti and stuff like "My One Aspiration" and "The Illusive Dreams" right thru even old choruses and hymnals and not forgetting Christian Musicals' soundtrack albums - hybrid with dramas and sketches in between.....for ONE COMMON REASON - to spread out GOD's MESSAGE of ETERNAL LOVE AND GRACE to all of Manjung District and beyond.

One would recall how these humble beginnings go about: the majority of the Musicals were staged in 'UNGLAMOROUS' YET 'COSY' settings in the so-called ACS Old Hall (now fully taken over by the ACS Primary) where the stage floor surface was rather 'uneven' and the hall's walls were shabby and there was a lot of exposed wiring on and off the stage. NOT TO FORGET was a BADLY run-down upright piano with almost ALL the keys, black and white 'kena hancur' to the extent that the ACS Secondary Hall Piano had to be transported in as a replacement. However, there were exceptions especially in 1988 (The Promise,The Hope) when the Musical was held at the ACS Secondary Hall and in 1990 (Calvary's Love) and 1993 during Hari Raya Aidilfitri loosely based on Les Miserables with some Cam Floria stuff added onto it - were held at the MHS Hall. Except for a few occasions, the MYF Musicals have even gained some external reputation and has garnered invitations to stage outside the Church, especially during the MYF Institute during the '80's and early '90's. Ever since 1996, the MYF Musicals have been held in the current Sitiawan Wesley Methodist Church Sanctuary (located beside SMJK Nan Hwa).

Soloists, Actors, Dancers and Musicians come and go as time passes but the MYF has for many occasions been fortunate to have been able to raise an abundant list of talented people over all these years. It cannot be denied that even ex-MYFers who have for long not associated with the MYF, what say Musicals still returned to lend a helping hand or two....in any way possible to upkeep its' successes......and today, the tradition of the Musicals being run merely by the "Super Generation" as I have earlier mentioned have now been transformed into an "All For One, and One For All" affair where everyone who's available come together to make the Musical a BIG affair, and the result has ALWAYS BEEN SOMETHING BIG.....but that's not the main point to be brought up - instead that our hope to see Sitiawan, if not the whole of Manjung District hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Joshua 24:15
